The South-South Awards is a high-level gala event highlighting contributions by governments, the United Nations, private sector and civil society towards the advancement of the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development across the global South.
World leaders, senior government officials, ambassadors, heads of international organizations, celebrities, and world-class musicians gather each year to honor the outstanding contributions by people and organizations to social development, economic growth and environmental awareness.
The South-South Awards recognizes individuals and organizations representing Governments, the United Nations, business and civil society who make contribute to the advancement of the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development.
Past Awards and Recognitions have been presented to members of these groups, including Heads of State, United Nations leaders, global chief executives, celebrities, and civil society icons.
The 2015 South-South Awards will be held in support of the United Nations Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.
The event is sponsored and supported by the permanent missions of Member States to the United Nations, United Nations agencies, the South-South Steering Committee for Sustainable Development (SS-SCSD), the International Organization for South-South Cooperation (IOSSC), as well as philanthropic foundations and charities.
