Our overall mission of the South-South Awards is to:
- Support the efforts to promote sustainable development on a global scale by recognizing significant contributions from governments, the UN, businesses and civil society.
- Advance the Millennium Development Goals and Post-2015 Development Agenda through awareness, outreach and recognition.
- Highlight areas of best practice and cooperation between and among countries of the global South.
The timeline for the Millennium Development Goals expires at the end of 2015, but the challenge of promoting sustainable development is far from over.
The world has committed itself to an ambitious and universal new agenda – the Sustainable Development Goals – that will continue the successes of the MDGs and incorporate the three dimensions of sustainable development: social progress, economic growth, and environmental harmony.
The South-South Awards supports the efforts of the stakeholders in the development process by identifying the most outstanding contributions and practices that can be shared across national or regional boundaries by other countries of the global South.
